SELMA to Snohomish: Movie Screening & Discussion Panel
Civil rights are not granted. History teaches us that the rights we have are right's we've earned. All communities have had to struggle against oppression to create a world that holds them as equals. By confronting oppression, communities of people are able to achieve a measure of fair and equal expression. However, a great travesty is unfolding in this country as the collective progress fought for by generations is undermined by both overt regressive opposition and a false sense of accomplishment.
Selma to Snohomish: The Road of Civic Engagement is an educational activation brought to you by a coalition of students, teachers, organizations, businesses, politicians, and community members of all "races", faiths, and creeds.
This civic engagement series is an effort to return the voter to the voting booth through a better understanding of the historic struggle for the right to vote. It is a free community event featuring the film SELMA with a panel discussion and refreshments to follow. Come to share in the conversation about why "SELMA is NOW!" and about the ongoing struggle for civil rights and voting rights.
