Tostan's (tostan.org) mission is to empower African communities to bring about sustainable development and positive social transformation based on respect for human rights. Currently working in West Africa, Tostan works to ensure rural communities have the knowledge and tools to determine their own futures and develop in a sustainable way. Tostan has proven that human rights-based, inclusive, community-driven development is not only possible but inspirational and "catching" - there is an increasing demand from the global community for training and requests for Tostan to extend its programming to new countries and continents.
