Willow Pop-up 4: Charity Dinner with Outgrowing Hunger
This meal will be in a tasting menu format and will likely last until 9:00 or 9:30. In addition to the 7 printed courses, we also serve several courses of 'snacks & surprises', a now signature gift to our guests: a small bite or two of something that will amuse or satisfy, serving as punctuation throughout the meal. Complimentary wine & beverage pairings will also be offered. Due to the fundraising nature of this pop-up, we are charging $75 and a full 50% of profits will be donated directly to Outgrowing Hunger.
Outgrowing Hunger is a non-profit that is focused on empowering recent immigrants and refugees to take control of their food supply. Through land grants and an extensive volunteer base, OGH is renting small garden plots to families at a steep discount, so that the recipients can a) grow their own food and b) begin to sell to local chefs and restaurants. We are particularly excited about this dinner because there is an opportunity for us to discover some really interesting, really unknown ingredients that are grown here in Portland. Fitting with our Cascadian-food model, if it grows here we can use; there is also potential that we will collaborate with some of the recipients of the OGH garden plots to create a dish or two for their forthcoming cookbook.
Jefferson Smith, former State Senator and candidate for Mayor, will be our Host for the evening. Bringing to light some of the more poignant success stories, Mr. Smith will help to sharpen the focus on OGH's vital, community based vision.
