Founding 49ers: The Dark Days Before the Dynasty - David Newhouse
The San Jose Earthquakes: A Seismic Soccer Legacy - Gary Singh

Join us for an evening of presentations by Gary Singh, a San Jose native and lifelong Earthquakes fan, who will recount the Earthquakes legendary story and share important overlap with the beginning of the San Francisco 49ers.  Gary's presentation will be followed by Dave Newhouse's, who will provide us with a fascinating look at the 49ers early years through the eyes of the players who gave the franchise its foundation.

In "Founding 49ers," ex-players from the 1940s, 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s share their tales, including two members of the original 1946 team; Lou Spadia, the last surviving member of the 49ers original front office; former 49ers coach George Seifert; and Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Fouts, son of an early 49ers broadcaster.  Although these 49ers didn't win like their successors, they broke down racial barriers and turned San Francisco into a major league city.

You already know the San Francisco 49ers are among the most dynamic franchises with five Super Bowl titles and players like Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, and Ronnie Lott, but Dave Newhouse has given us a look at the 35 fascinating years before the 49ers greatness.

Dave Newhouse has written eleven books during a half-century career as an award-winning sports journalist and columnist, primarily at the Oakland (CA) Tribune. He first saw the 49ers play in the 1940s and then covered their rise to respectability in the 1970s and beyond.

Gary Singh is an award-winning travel journalist with a music degree who publishes poetry, paints and exhibits photographs. He's published travel essays, art and music criticism, profiles, business journalism, lifestyle articles and more, and has written the Silicon Alleys column for Metro, SanJose's alternative weekly newspaper.

The event is free - please register today.
