Grungy Garage - a DIY Trunk Sale Event
Enter the Grungy Garage - a DIY Trunk Sale event at Jimmy's Saloon in Newport, RI! This one-of-a-kind show is going down Saturday September 5th 2015, Labor Day weekend. Stop by from 2-5pm for free and check out all the cool stuff from the artists and vendors who'll be set up throughout the building! Free BBQ food available all afternoon too.
The live music starts around 5pm with seven live bands performing: Benny Sizzler, Neutral Nation, Senior Discount, Slim Wray (NYC), Sweet Babylon, PlanetRAWK (GA) and Mystic Seahorse (CT). And DJ Frankensister will be spinning the best of metal, punk, psychedelic and more all day & night!

Benny Sizzler is a rock & roll band from Aquidneck Island headed up by Gail Greenwood, a former member of L7 and Belly. Greenwood and her partner, singer/bassist Chil Mott, formed the group in 2003. Other members of the band are guitarist Mark Tomis and drummer Slim Jim Colleran. Alumni of this band include the late guitarist/singer Gene Severens (who had played with Greenwood in Boneyard) and guitarist Terry Linehan (a fill-in guitarist for Green Day). Greenwood and Mott remain active in anti-sprawl efforts, promoting the retention of open spaces, responsible development and lobbying for land conservation in the face of tremendous pressure by big-box corporations including Wal-Mart.

Mike "Dexter Trim" Yarworth, Dave "Iron Chef" Chabot, Tom "T-Buck" Buckland, and Mike "Stumpy" Neckritz have disseminated their positive energy in the form of punk and post-punk songs that have found resting places in the hearts of aging rockers throughout the region since the early 80s . "We have great relationships in this band; we're like brothers," says Buckland. "I've worked with lots of bands since, and I see absolute chaos and strife all over the place. We didn't have that at all! We'd argue and stuff, but nothing more."

Senior Discount is a punk rock band (with some ska influences) based out of Providence, Rhode Island. In addition to playing music, the band is equally involved in the production of film. The band consists of Chuck Staton on vocals and guitar, Abe Correia on bass and back-up vocals, Eric Macksoud on lead guitar and back-up vocals, and Christian Staton playing the drums. Slim Wray is a bombastic, irreverent rock 'n roll band founded on the back of thunderous drums and gritty, fuzz-fueled guitar riffs. They just released their new single, "Take It Or Leave It," from their forthcoming EP, out this summer. After touring regionally throughout 2014, the band settled into Bunker Studios in South Williamsburg Brooklyn to record their upcoming release, which boasts "raucous guitar chords and growling vocals with an adrenaline blast." (CraveOnline). Founded by Ryan Houser (vocals/guitar) and Chris Moran (drums/vocals), who had previously collaborated in other NYC-based projects, updated their sound and formed Slim Wray in 2012. The line-up was later completed with the addition of Brian Lawlor (bass).

Sweet Babylon is a local Massachusetts ska punk band that formed and has been in the Providence Ska scene since 2011. They have played with great acts like The Toasters, The Slackers, Bim Skala Bim, Ryan Eldred from Catch 22, The Scofflaws, Badfish, Dirty Deeds, The Agents, Short Handed Goal, Llama Tsunami and many more. The band has been known for playing many times in Rhode Island, but has also toured around New England hitting New Hampshire as well as Massachusetts.

PlanetRAWK is an American alternative electronic rock band based out of Atlanta, Georgia. The band was started by alternative indie artist, Charlie Ahanotu (ex-front man of StereoTALK). In 2010 Charlie began writing and performing as PlanetRAWK, which is described as "Alternative Dirty South Rock Fusion". He incorporated the use of futuristic synth and modern rock to create an aggressive blend of alternative hip hop. Members MikaH Bahamut, and Ashley Fayt came along adding their own influences, and since then they've been making memorable performances across the nation multiple times and counting.
