Season for Style & Substance
The Seattle Section of the National Council of Negro Women will hold their annual luncheon on Saturday, October 3, 2015, 1:00 P.M. at Renton Technical College. This event begins our Season for Style & Substance. We invite you to "Step 'n Sip Sophistication" with us as we honor 12 inspiring women and hear the words of our guest speaker, prolific author, Kimberla Lawson Roby. Reservations are being accepted now . . . $45.00 per person. Proceeds benefit our Lillian Gideon Legacy Awards Education Fund.
This luncheon will be jam-packed with excitement, fun and stellar entertainment. We will launch our special blend signature tea, hold a silent auction, and provide a sumptuous lunch complete with homemade desserts. Wear your beautiful, unusual and color-coordinated shoes, you may be surprised with a prize! Also if you have gently-used shoes you no longer wear, or a pair of new shoes or socks you would like to donate, feel free to bring it to the luncheon for donation to a local shelter.
Seattle Section NCNW is a section of the National Council of Negro Women, Inc. which was founded in 1935 by Mary McLeod Bethune; an educator, activist, community leader, advisor to four U.S. Presidents and founder of Bethune-Cookman University. NCNW Seattle Section will celebrate 50 years of service in Seattle/King County. Some of our projects over the years have included Town Halls, Black History Celebrations, James W. Washington Youth Art Exhibits, Children's Toy Festival, raising funds for scholarships, food banks, the East Cherry YWCA, immunization programs, Youth mentoring/job shadowing, The EBONY Fashion Show, publishing "Eating Uptown - Downtown," a cookbook.
Kimberla Lawson-Roby is a New York Times best-selling author. Kimberla will be available to autograph your books. We will have several of her nationally acclaimed books onsite for purchase. DeVaughnn Williams, Miss Black Washington will also make an appearance. Award winning photographer, Lisa Brown was chosen to photograph the 12 women of Style and Substance, featured in a book co-authored by Yvonne Carr, Sarah JeDean and LaVerne C. Hall. The Seattle Section will also launch their signature tea at this event.
