40th Anniversary Gala Screening of ALICE DOESN'T LIVE HERE ANYMORE
Tucson Festival of Films and Loft Film Fest present the 40th Anniversary Gala Screening of ALICE DOESN'T LIVE HERE ANYMORE.
SPECIAL 35MM SCREENING AT THE LOFT
Directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Ellen Burstyn, Kris Kristofferson, Harvey Keitel, Diane Ladd, and Jodie Foster, the seminal film of a young widow in search of a better life was filmed in Tucson and southern Arizona (several locations, including downtown's Chicago Music Store, the Monterey Village shopping center at the intersection of Speedway and Wilmot, and the iconic Longhorn Bar & Grill in Amado are readily identifiable in the film).
In the New York Times' 1975 review of ALICE, Ms. Burstyn was praised as "one of the few actresses at work today who is able to seem appealing, tough, intelligent, funny, and bereft, all at approximately the same moment." She was awarded the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in the film. Co-star Diane Ladd earned a career-first Oscar nomination in the category of Best Supporting Actress for her role as the wisecracking waitress Flo.
FESTIVAL EXCLUSIVE Ellen Burstyn and Diane Ladd recently sat down with the Festival and discussed their experiences filming ALICE in Tucson. Their filmed conversation will screen directly after the movie.
