OUTSTANDING IN THE FIELD: A Fall Farm Dinner
SHOW, TELL, EAT AND DRINK...
Paradox Farm -- a small goat dairy in West End, NC -- provides the welcoming backdrop of an early fall landscape, ideal for savoring local food and convening family, friends and neighbors.
Learn about small-scale farming, ruminants, cheesemaking and eating seasonally in the Sandhills. A stroll around the farm -- amidst free-range chickens and alongside goats of all size, shape and color -- ends at sprawling tables set under an ample umbrella of pine boughs.
Goats' milk cheeses are the story at Paradox Farm, and they take center-stage on a seasonally-inspired menu designed in partnership with the Sandhills Community College Culinary Arts Department.
-- Paradox Farm cheese board with dried fruit, nuts and crackers
-- Roasted local apples with bibb lettuce greens, "Cheese Louise!" (fresh chevre), orange glazed beets, roasted walnuts and balsamic thyme vinaigrette
-- Red wine and rosemary grilled flank steak with a sweet corn, red pepper and "Feta Complee" saute and fingerling fries
-- Local roasted root vegetables with "Paradox Paneer" and a honey and fresh herb butter
-- An assortment of European cakes and tortes, along with "Sweet Curly May Goat's Milk Fudge"
-- Beers from Southern Pines Brewing Company and wines from Black Rock Vineyards
Ingredients sourced from the following local farms:
-- David's Produce -- Half Acre Farm -- Hilltop Angus Farm -- James Creek Orchard -- Spahr's Produce
Food has long fostered connections -- among family, friends, farmer and chef. Outstanding in our field, we hope you'll agree that when what we eat and where it comes from helps cultivate a sense of community, it can feed our souls as well as our bellies.
