Wooden Boat Classic
The South End Rowing Club welcomes the wooden boat community! We are hosting a fun weekend starting with a dinner including talks and a chanty, a regatta on San Francisco Bay, bunch, tours of the South End and Dolphin club, and lots of opportunities to talk about wooden boats.
Bring your human powered wooden boat up Saturday August 29th. This can be anything from a sliding seat racing boat, fixed seat row boat, canon, kayak, whale boat, barge, shell, etc. Even wooden stand-up paddle boats are welcome!
The weekend starts on Saturday August 29th with registration between 3:00pm and 5:00pm. We will have a space for your boat and welcome you to our club. This is immediately followed by a welcome party with food and drinks.
After the dinner we will hear an awesome talk by historian and author Bob Barde. Bob is author of Immigration at the Golden Gate: Passenger Ships, Exclusion, and Angel Island.
We'll cap the night off with a shanty sing.
Sunday August 30th will be the regatta and boat parade. The regatta will feature starts by boat class. Those wishing not to compete in a race will start after all other boats have left the starting line and run the same course as our boat parade class.
After the fun on the water it will be time to refuel with a huge brunch, celebratory beers and more wooden boat fantastic fellowship. After brunch, tours of both the South End and the Dolphin club will be given.
Please help spread to the word to all the boat lovers and clubs you know! Guests without boats are welcome!
The weekend will feature beer by the South End's own Sliding Seat Brewing. There will be an oak aged black rye pale and a cranberry tart wheat. Both pair excellently with all things handcrafted and made of wood.
