Radio Mystery 1949
Producers Richmond Shepard, John P. Greene and Fae Simmons announced the opening of the new Dennis Richard play, Radio Mystery 1949 directed by Richmond Shepard. The year is 1949 and a group of actors are in a studio in New York reading a live mystery radio program, only to be distracted when one actor arrives late who claims he has in a duffle bag something that can change their lives forever.
Old Time Radio, also known as the Golden Age of Radio refers to the proliferation of radio from the 1920's until television replaced it in the 1950's as the dominant home entertainment medium. During this time mystery radio was very popular as it left an impression on the mind's eye, and through the use of narrations, eerie sound effects and other creative devices, listeners were entertained by visualizing the look of the characters and the twists and turns of the story. The power of suggestion implanted within the imagination places the listener in the room with the characters and has the tendency to strike fear into the mind.
Radio Mystery 1949 stars Dan Burkarth*, Lisa Landino*, Stacy Ayn Price, Alexander Reed, Richard M. Steele*,and Nate Steinwachs*.
Director Richmond Shepard said, "We are bringing back the days of mystery radio by inviting our audience to join us in the year 1949 as a group of actors portray the intricacies of a scripted live radio mystery only to be confronted by an unseen menace that forces them to explore an even deeper level of suspense." Richmond Shepard is an award-winning writer, director, producer and mime and has been in the entertainment business for over 50 years. He has appeared on over one hundred television shows notably as a transvestite kidnapper on "Kojak" and has traveled the world performing at Mime festivals in Shanghai, Istanbul, Jakarta, Armenia, Berlin and England.
