Triskelion Arts Presents... Lydia Mokdessi and Benjamin Wagner & Kawamura the 3rd
Triskelion Arts Presents a shared program of new work by Lydia Mokdessi and Benjamin Wagner & Kawamura the 3rd

Thursday  Friday, January 7  8, 2016 at 8pm
Triskelion Arts' Muriel Schulman Theater
106 Calyer Street, Brooklyn, NY 11222 (enter on Banker Street)

kindread / bloodmoon is a live-composed duet created and performed by Lydia Mokdessi and Benjamin Wagner. The work investigates topics of ancestral myth, belongingness, groupthink, cyclical time, and intimate danger. Concerned with the fixed outcomes of genes / history / choices versus the possibility for perpetual reinvention, Mokdessi and Wagner consciously inhabit the space between the familiar and the frightening and remain committed to a logic-less intuition. Mokdessi and Wagner's process is centered around a living vocabulary of choreography and text drawn from shared research and performative structures that allow for live-composition.

Mana Kawamura premieres a trio inspired by the winters in her hometown in northern Japan. The town was inevitably blanketed in thick white snow yet as time wore on, the surface of things changed. Spring's sunlight melted the snow, revealing everything beneath, all that had been there all along, lying in wait, unchanged, be they feelings, images, or ideas. The dance's lush, fluid movement conjures this passage of time while its use of hundreds of origami cranes gives the work's landscape a texture that is symbolic of hope and fragility.

This program is supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council.
