Fisherman's Blues Dinner Party: Fundraiser for Anna Badkhen
Friends of Anna Badkhen will host a fundraising event to help cover her costs to research her next book, FISHERMAN'S BLUES, which will chronicle of the life of a family of Senegalese artisanal fishermen during a fishing season. To research it, Badkhen will, starting this fall, spend several months living with fishermen in Senegal. Intimate, hyper-impressionistic, meticulously researched, the book will be a kind of documentary prose poetry, illustrated with hand-drawn sketches. It will be published by Riverhead in 2017.
Lori Waselchuk, Kevin Varrone and Pattie McCarthy will host the fundraiser at Kevin and Pattie's beautifully renovated barn and adjacent garden in Ardmore PA. We will serve a Senegalese dinner and homemade sweets. Anna will read from her latest book, WALKING WITH ABEL, and answer questions about her work. We will be serenaded by a West African DJ.
Books and prints will also be on sale. Badkhen and Waselchuk collaborated to create a limited-edition portfolio of prints of Badkhen's sketches that were used to illustrate WALKING WITH ABEL. The fine-art print portfolio, individual prints and books will be on sale at the event.
