Conceived by James H. Nicholson and directed by Roger Corman, X is easily one of the most disturbing and unforgettable of AIP's films, and features a remarkable performance from Ray Milland as a scientist who manages to give himself X-ray vision. Initially intoxicated by his incredible powers, he ultimately finds his new-found 'gift' to be a mixed-blessing to say the least, one that gives him the ability to penetrate more deeply into the material world than he can cope with.

ABOUT ANTHOLOGY'S AIP SURVEY:
This summer Anthology begins an extensive survey of films produced or distributed by American International Pictures. AIP, more than any other company, was responsible for developing and feeding the nascent market of teenage moviegoers, filling the nation's cinemas and drive-ins with innumerable sci-fi, horror, racecar, biker, and blaxploitation films, and serving as a breeding ground for filmmakers from Roger Corman and Martin Scorsese to Francis Ford Coppola and Monte Hellman, as well as actors such as Jack Nicholson, Robert De Niro, Peter Fonda, Dennis Hopper, Bruce Dern, and many, many others.
Our survey opens with a selection of AIP films made by bona-fide auteurs, from long-established greats who wound down their careers with AIP productions such as Edgar G. Ulmer and Vincente Minnelli to future New Hollywood luminaries like Coppola and Scorsese, who served their apprenticeships with the studio. And the survey continues with a focus on the ultra-low-budget, crafty sci-fi and horror films that marked AIP's first decade.
