Gary Ogan Solo - Suite Woogie CD Release Concert
Hello Friends!
It gives me great pleasure to extend an invitation to you to help celebrate the release of my newest CD, Suite Woogie, with a solo concert that has been set for Friday, September 18, 2015, at the Coleman-Scott House in the Irvington neighborhood of northeast Portland. This Colonial Revival House was listed on the National Register of Historic Poaces in 1985, and I'm honored that my debut performance here will be on behalf of this particular new record. This particular new record is a very up close and personal look at Woogie the cat, via me, the vulnerable artist. So of course it's also a very up close and personal look at myself. I signed off early on about caring how it might make me look to some. So many things in the creative experience of these songs were off the charts, things I had never done before, and things I didn't see coming when I started writing the first song, Song For Woogie. I didn't know I would have 12 new songs by the end of that week, that no two songs would be written in the same key, that I would sob through the writing of each one, that it would become my first true solo record of live performances, no overdubs or fixes, and that for me some of it would be the best stuff I've ever written. So, yeah, I was happy with my own 12-step musical program for grieving pet owners. I know you're out there. As a hint of the evening's planned menu of music, in addition to highlights from Suite Woogie, I'll be visiting various parts of my 40+years-in-the-making catalog, including several new songs from my current batch of works-in-progress. And as always, if certain friends happen to be in attendance, things could always give way to surprises. You just never know. I want to thank Monte and Carol Hess, owners of the Coleman-Scott House, for hosting this event and for their impressive history of opening their home to a variety of philanthropic, historical, and musical events over the years. Repeat performances at the Coleman-Scott House from such local stalwarts as Tom Grant and the late great Janice Scroggins, bodes well and puts me in good company.
I look forward to seeing you all again and, of course, making some music. Until then ...
Cheers -
Gary
