"La Vie Parisienne" Concert November 22nd
Sunday November 22nd, 2014 3:00 pm | Sundin Music Hall Hamline University, St. Paul
Sonata for Flute and Piano Francis Poulenc
Terzetto Casimir-Théophile Théodore Lalliet
3 Pièces for Wind Quintet Jacques Ibert
Octet Jean Françaix
The delightful and melodious Poulenc Flute Sonata starts off our second program of the season. Following on its heels is the Lalliet Terzetto for oboe, bassoon, and piano and draws on the beautiful melodic traditions of bel canto opera. The bubbly, sunny Ibert will charm you with its frothy humor, and we close the concert in style with Francaix's witty 20th century Octet, whose mixed wind and string instrumentation was inspired by Schubert's monumental (and very Viennese) Octet.
The Musical Offering's ensemble is composed of top-tier professional musicians from the Minnesota Orchestra and Minnesota's top University Schools of Music: Celine Leathead, violin; Gareth Zehngut, viola; Jim Jacobson, cello; Jane Garvin, flute; John Snow, oboe; David Pharris, clarinet; Caroline Lemen horn; *Norbert Nielubowski, bassoon; and *Susan Billmeyer, piano.
*Co-Artistic Director
