Sonata for Flute, Viola, and Harp Claude Debussy
Dix-Sept Variations for Wind Quintet Jean-Michel Damase
Élégie for Horn and Piano Francis Poulenc
Piano Trio Maurice Ravel
This all-inclusive food and wine event is accompanied by delectable appetizers, a variety of refreshments, and a desserts reception with the musicians. Debussy's landmark Sonata for flute, viola, and harp brings us into the lush world of Impressionism in music, and Ravel's profoundly moving Piano Trio combines Impressionistic harmony and Romantic virtuosity in thrilling ways. In between, we feature two contrasting works: the colorful, effervescent Damase wind quintet and the mournful Poulenc Élégie, written in 1958 in memory of the horn virtuoso Dennis Brain.
The Musical Offering's ensemble is composed of top-tier professional musicians from the Minnesota Orchestra and Minnesota's top University Schools of Music: Celine Leathead, violin; Gareth Zehngut, viola; Jim Jacobson, cello; Jane Garvin, flute; John Snow, oboe; David Pharris, clarinet; Caroline Lemen horn; *Norbert Nielubowski, bassoon; and *Susan Billmeyer, piano.
