Orphans
Two orphaned brothers live in a decrepit North Philadelphia row house. Treat, the eldest, supports his damaged younger sibling by petty thievery, and makes the house a virtual prison for the seemingly simple-minded Phillip. One night he kidnaps a rich older man, Harold, who turns out to have his own motives and becomes the father figure the boys have always yearned for.
Dollar Bill Productions, in association with Theatre of NOTE, presents Orphans by Lyle Kessler. Bill Voorhees directs and stars as Treat. Joining him are fellow Theatre of NOTE company members Kjai Block and Darrett Sanders as Phillip and Harold, respectively.
Orphans originally premiered in Los Angeles at The Matrix Theatre to critical acclaim. It has since enjoyed productions at Steppenwolf Theatre, on London's West End, and most recently on Broadway starring Alec Baldwin.
The Los Angeles Times has said about Orphans "Kessler has something very important to say, and he says it in terms we can't ignore. The biggest message is that we need each other."
The New York Times wrote that Orphans is "theater for the senses and emotions."
