Participants
Bring your business cards and flyers for upcoming programs. We have extended invitations to community-based organizations, cultural groups, museums, schools, theaters, and others for the July 6 meeting.  We hope this meeting will encourage valuable networking along with laying the groundwork for a rich program of Shakespeare-related activities that draw individuals, groups, and families from across Seattle and Washington.

Display Overview
The Central Library's display of Shakespeare's First Folio will highlight one of the most quoted lines from Shakespeare: the Hamlet soliloquy "to be or not to be." The text will be accompanied by a multi-panel exhibition that explores the significance of Shakespeare, past and present, along with digital content and interactive activities.

The Library will be working with Shakespearean focused organizations including:
Seattle Shakespeare Company
The English Speaking Union of the United States -- Seattle Branch
University of Washington English Department
Young Shakespeare Workshop

Background on Shakespeare's First Folio
Shakespeare's plays were written to be performed. They were not published during his lifetime. The First Folio is prized because it is the first collected edition of Shakespeare's plays. It was published in 1623, seven years after Shakespeare's death. Two of Shakespeare's fellow actors compiled 36 of his plays to preserve them for future generations. Highlights from its chapters include Macbeth, Julius Caesar, Twelfth Night, The Tempest, Antony and Cleopatra, The Comedy of Errors, and As You Like It.
The Folger Shakespeare Library has organized the national exhibition "First Folio! The Book that Gave Us Shakespeare" with engagements in all 50 states along with Washington DC and Puerto Rico. It also happens to hold 82 copies of the First Folio, by far the largest collection in the world.
