Our Relationship to Place: Two Perspectives on the Columbia River
Title: Our Relationship to Place: Two Perspectives on the Columbia River
Time: August 22nd from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM
Field Sites: Fort Vancouver and Ridgefield/Cathlapotle Village
Cost: $ 25 to 75 / person

What does it mean to live on this land? What relationships do we have to place? What relationships have historically existed between people and this land? How do those relationships impact us? This session will explore these questions and others as an introduction to a broader set of course offerings by Confluence and the Wapato Valley School. Our explorations will be guided by visits to an early site of European colonization at Fort Vancouver by the Hudson Bay Company and near a former Chinookan village site of at the Ridgefield Wildlife Refuge. Throughout the day we will examine how different relationships to place shaped each community's engagement in the Columbia River Basin and how they impact the past, present and future.

Vancouver)
1:30 PM Travel to Ridgefield/Cathlapotle Village

NOTE ON SLIDING SCALE

Courses are offered on a sliding scale with scholarship opportunities such that no-one is turned away for lack of funds. If you would like to request a scholarship please email scholarship@wapatovalley.com.

We use a sliding scale of $ 5 to $ 15 per hour of instruction. The sliding scale for this course ranges from $ 25 to $ 75. The pricing covers all course preparation, payments to guest speakers and compensation for the instruction. We encourage you to pay according to your means. If you have a higher income and are able to pay towards the higher end of the spectrum you will be directly creating affordability for those interested in taking these courses and contributing to adequate compensation for those putting together and teaching the courses.
