Our Relationship to Place: Two Perspectives on the Columbia River
Title: Our Relationship to Place: Two Perspectives on the Columbia River Time: August 22nd from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM Field Sites: Fort Vancouver and Ridgefield/Cathlapotle Village Cost: $ 25 to 75 / person
What does it mean to live on this land? What relationships do we have to place? What relationships have historically existed between people and this land? How do those relationships impact us? This session will explore these questions and others as an introduction to a broader set of course offerings by Confluence and the Wapato Valley School. Our explorations will be guided by visits to an early site of European colonization at Fort Vancouver by the Hudson Bay Company and near a former Chinookan village site of at the Ridgefield Wildlife Refuge. Throughout the day we will examine how different relationships to place shaped each community's engagement in the Columbia River Basin and how they impact the past, present and future.
