We are hosting this event to celebrate our 10th anniversary and to kick off our Campaign for Health Youth. The goal of the campaign is to raise reserve funding that will provide security and flexibility for our organization. It will raise funds to support services in specific areas, and to protect against gaps in services. Part of that fund, will be designated for mental health services in the name of our former Board Chair who died this year, Michael Baxter. Michael was trained as an LCSW and started his career as a therapist. He went on to either found or substantially support nearly every youth clinic in San Francisco, including 3rd St.
More about 3rd Street:
The 3rd Street Youth Center & Clinic was founded in 2005 as a true community collaboration to fill a critical gap in San Francisco's Bayview Hunters Point neighborhood. The youth we serve are burdened by challenges to their physical and mental health that most youth never face. Our mission is to help youth make choices that improve their physical, emotional, and social well-being, empowering them to become healthy, active, and engaged adults. We invest in the healthy neighborhood of the future by helping youth people enter adulthood with healthy bodies, minds and spirits, and with the knowledge and drive to demand good health for themselves, their families, and community.
In the last 10 years, we have contributed to the psychical and emotional health and well-being of 1,000's teens and young adults. Our medical care includes STD treatment rates, pregnancy prevention services and health education shown to be among the best in the city's youth clinics. Our youth have recorded two albums, educated hundreds of their peers, created cookbooks and art exhibits and a host of other public expressions of their engagement with their own health. In turn, the greater community has invested in us by donating over $600,000 in our 2012 capital campaign to move into our improved new space.
*3rd Street Youth Center & Clinic is a fiscally sponsored non-profit organizations. Your charitable contribution is tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. A formal receipt of your gift will follow.
