Robert Smythe: Who Knew?
Come for dinner, stay for the show!
Robert Smythe's solo cabaret about his life in the (puppet) theater, with songs from vaudeville, Broadway and life. There are no puppets, but there will be tap dancing.
Robert Smythe has long been known as one of Philadelphia's most creative theater creators and performers. While many people know him as the award-winning founder and artistic director of Mum Puppettheatre, few are aware that he started off in musical theater before fulfilling a dream of creating an internationally known puppet theater.
This intimate and personal show includes songs from his grandparents' vaudeville careers, shows he's been in or produced at Mum, songs that describe the ups and downs of a life on the road while leaving a family at home, as well as the joy and pain of creating and dismantling a labor of love.
