Tony Furtado at The Homefront Music Series!
The Homefront Music Series is pleased to welcome back Tony Furtado on August 23, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. at the Wynfield Clubhouse.
This event will be a pot luck dinner starting at 5:00 p.m. and music at 6:30 p.m. Bring a dish to share if you would like to join for dinner; otherwise, you can attend for the music only for which the doors will open at 6:00. In any case, BYOB. (Please drink responsibly.)
Tony's first performance at our house concert series (with Luke Price) blew us away with the level of his musicianship. No wonder he won the 1987 National Banjo Competition which led to the launch of his professional career. He won the contest again in 1991. Tony is still playing and writing like a fiend. With respect to his preference for music genres, Tony admits "I think I was kind of doomed to be a multi-genre player from the start." (source: Katie Klingsporn, March 8, 2007 Telluride Daily Planet.) He has spent decades in the music business fusing bluegrass, country, rock, blues, jazz, and folk (both American and European) on his expanding instrument arsenal of banjo, guitar, slide guitar and voice. (source: Tom Watson, January 18, 2007 Modern Guitars.)
Tony has lived primarily on the road for the last two decades. He is gregarious, engaging and entertaining, on and off stage. He's been called a genius on banjo and slide guitar and his own creative interpretation-hybrid of Americana and indie rock is captivating. Onstage, whether playing with a band or solo, he owns the room, mixing stories of his travels with musicianship that is off the charts. In addition to his outstanding musicianship, Tony is also a talented sculptor whose work has homes on Etsy.com and Amazon.com.
Tony is excited to have his bassist and percussionist with him on this visit. This is going to be another special night!
