Lotus Crush, My Body Sings Electric, Corner Gospel Explosion, Bravey Don at The Annex 21+
The band consists of guitarist Peter Klett and drummer Scott Mercado both founding members of the multi platinum alternative rock band Candlebox, former Driveblind lead vocalist, Terry McDermott, and Seattle guitarist John Luzzi (Miggs/Phantoms). BIOGRAPHY With members hailing from Seattle, WA, New Orleans,LA, and Aberdeen, Scotland, the band came together after Klett and McDermott met while on tour. The name Lotus Crush came from many agonizing late night discussions. One day I was reading about lotus eaters in Greek mythology and I had a clear vision. The lotus eaters were a race of people from an island near North Africa dominated by lotus plants. They would eat the lotus ower and enter a perpetual state of dreaming, a Zen-like bliss. This was a suitable analogy of our music. The word crush means (among other denitions) a great crowd: a crush of people. The two words came together perfectly to represent the bandʼs approach towards their music.
In November of 2009, McDermott headed to Seattle to Klett's studio and started recording their new material. After recording the rst couple of songs with just acoustic guitar and vocals, the two of them realized they had something special. The next logical step was to complete the lineup with musicians that shared the same drive and passion for the new music. The guys didnʼt have to look too far for a drummer. Scott Mercado from Klettʼs band Candlebox, stepped up to the plate. Completing the lineup is Seattle native John Luzzi on guitar.
The bands debut album was produced by Klett in his Seattle studio and mixed by Kelly Gray (Candlebox, Queensryche, Brother Cane). The ten tracks that make up the album draw heavily from the ups and downs the band members have experienced over the years. "When we write, itʼs no holds barred" says McDermott. "These songs represent a lot of hope, loss, coping and our lives in general".
