Join us for the inaugural Strengthening Families Philadelphia Summit. Come to learn more about how the Strengthening Families approach is taking root across the city in child welfare, education, and healthcare. A Strong Family Builds a Strong CommUNITY! Come together to help this work flourish throughout Philadelphia.
The Strengthening Families staff of Philadelphia's Community Umbrella agencies (CUAs) and the Department of Human Services are pleased to present an exciting line up of Strengthening Families practitioners from many different fields. We will hear from keynote speaker Carol Wilson Spigner, a longtime advocate in child welfare policy. Carol is a child welfare policy and services consultant who recently retired from the University of Pennsylvania School of Social Policy and Practice where she directed the social policy program and taught policy and macro practice. While serving as the Associate Commissioner for the Children's Bureau in the Department of Health and Human Services, Spigner directed the implementation of Family Support and Family Preservation Act, the Adoption and Safe Families Act and redesigned the federal monitoring process. Her current work focuses on disparities in child welfare and reform of complex child welfare systems.
The 2015 Strengthening Families Philadelphia Summit also features workshop sessions on understanding protective factors and the Strengthening Families approach, practice strategies for strengthening families in communities, the Youth Thrive model for working with adolescents, engaging faith communities in Strengthening Families work, taking the Strengthening Families approach into schools and early childhood education, and implementing Parent Cafes.
We look forward to learning with you on August 6th!
