Armin Abdihodžić (b. 1984) began his guitar studies at age seven in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He graduated Summa cum Laude from William Carey University under Dr. Miroslav Lončar. After finishing his Master's degree from East Carolina University under Dr. Elliot Frank, Mr. Abdihodžić received his Doctorate of Musical Arts degree from University of North Texas, studying under prof. Thomas Johnson.
In his career, Mr. Abdihodžić performed solo and chamber concerts all over the world (Brazil, Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, USA ) and participated in many competitions. Since his first competition and 1st prize in 1998 Bosnian National Guitar Competition, he received numerous other awards: 1st prize at the Allegro Guitar Competition (2013), Appalachian State International Guitar Competition (2013), Rosario International Guitar Competition (2010), North Carolina Academy of Music Guitar Competition (2009), Mississippi Guitar Competition (2009), Pine Belt Guitar Symposium (2003), Mississippi Federation of Music Clubs (2004); and many other top prizes, including two 3rd prizes at the Texas A&M International Guitar Competition (2012) and Columbus State Guitar Symposium (2013).
Other than solo guitar competitions, Mr. Abdihodžić is very active in other areas of music. In 2005 he was among the eight finalists for the KCACTF competition for sound design at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C.
His recent collaborations include a performance of Astor Piazzolla's "Hommage à Liège" (double concerto for bandoneon and guitar) with Anchorage Civic Orchestra, recital of Spanish songs with mezzo-soprano Marsha Ackerman for the Anchorage Festival of Music, and a five-concert tour of Alaska with Anchorage-based tenor Zachary Milliman.
For the past five years, Mr. Abdihodžić has served as one of the instructors for the Summer Guitar School in Karlovac, Croatia. He is currently serving as an assistant professor in guitar at the University of Alaska Anchorage. He is also one of the founding members of the Borealis Guitar Quartet (Anchorage).
