Bryophytes are an unnatural group of plants comprised of what's commonly known as mosses, liverworts, and hornworts. These small, but ubiquitous plants are prevalent in nearly every habitat in Pennsylvania, yet they are frequently unnoticed or passed over during botanical surveys. With variety of habitats ranging from kettle hole bogs to limestone barrens, Pennsylvania is home to over 640 species of bryophytes. This one-day workshop explores bryophyte diversity by introducing you to the form, function, and habitats of these small, but important plants in the classroom and the field. The goal of this workshop is to provide you with the basic skills to recognize common bryophyte species in their habitats and equip you with the tools for more detailed species identification.
