Talking To Your Kids About Race
In the wake of the uprisings in Ferguson, NYC, and Baltimore, many of us are imagining that another world is possible. We know that the potential for a world in which unarmed Black Americans are not killed regularly by police has to start with us. In fact, the most powerful change we can make is on the micro level, with what we teach our children about race and implicit bias. How does one start a conversation about race with a child? What possible hurdles can we expect, and what are the potential rewards? The members of Stay Woke Parents Collective, who hosted the Black Lives Matter March For Families in February, invited presenter Micia Mosely (http://www.miciamosely.com/education/about-micia-mosely/) to speak to the community about these issues. Won't you join us as we gather around a meal, provided by BiRite market and Acre Gourmet, for the presentation and breakout groups? All proceeds go to the cost of the event itself, and a sliding scale is available, courtesy of our sponsor, Natural Resources. Tickets can be purchased at Brown Paper Tickets: http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/1621830. Reserve your seat now - spaces are limited! Please contact us at staywokeparentscollective@gmail.com with any further questions. This is an adult only event - if you want to come but need help finding a sitter, let us know. #StayWoke #RiseUp #BlackLivesMatter
