Are you up for some fun, and a new and unique twist on singles speed dating!?Speed Friending Events is redefining the Singles scene in Austin and we've put a new spin on Speed Dating that is sweeping the nation. As seen on The Travel Channel, KXAN, and CBS, our Unique Speed Dating format focuses on getting you more dates and higher quality matches any other Speed Dating Events around town.
** Our event is advertised on other Major Singles Groups so there will be a larger crowd than shown on just this group. Also, people often opt NOT to RSVP through Meetup or other social media for privacy reasons.
What should I expect from this event? How does Speed Dating work?
We have a wonderful guest host to keep things comfortable and moving right along so you don't have to worry about a thing other than being yourself! You'll have about five minutes (or less) to ask your partner questions you've made up from home or random questions you can think of off the top of your head. They also get the same amount of time after your turn is over. After you've spent a few minutes with each other, you will rotate partners. It's rapid fire, so you'll never get bored with one single conversation! After Speed Dating is over, you'll find those people you find most interesting and exchange contact information with them. What you do with the rest of the night is completely yours! That's the goal. We constantly monitor registrations and amp up promotion to try and ensure an equal gender ratio.

* If you have your free passes you've won at previous events, email your host to redeem any you may have. So RSVP early! *
*** Since it is challenging to produce an event and manage guy/girl ratios evenly, and making sure everyone has a partner, we may have to improvise during the actual event if we have some last minute no-shows.
It's important to us and other members that if you buy a ticket, you show up or if you need to cancel, let us know as far in advance as possible so we can make sure the ratios stay as close to 50/50 as we can keep it.
Although our goal is for you to meet everyone at the event, no-shows can affect the event and if this happens you may not get to meet everyone during the event, but most time people stay after the event and try to meet anybody they have not yet met.
Our event will start promptly at the designated Event Start time, so please plan to arrive at the posted Check-In time.
** If you arrive after the Event Start time, we may not be able to put you into the event and we do not offer refunds. Adding another person after the Event Start time disrupts the partner rotation and distracts everyone. This rule is in place to provide the highest quality experience for everyone who attends so the event goes smoothly. Thank you so much for your understanding. **
How to find us: We will all be wearing name tags! At most venues you can just ask at the reception desk and they will direct you.
Bring the following to the event: A pen and a 3x5 notecard with up to 7 questions already written on it. We will have some pens and note cards available for you at the event, so don't worry if you forget to bring them, please come anyway, but please try to prepare your questions in advance. See details below for more information on questions.
** Our events are usually at venues that are 21 and up, so please remember to bring your ID!! **
Events are most successful when we have a lot of people attending so our goal is to have around 30 people RSVP!! Help us make this a regular successful thing and help us fill up our spots by bringing your friends!
FAQ
Where are the RSVPs?
About 50% of the registrations come through Eventbrite and our main events website. They are not Meetup members. Many people prefer not to post their Meetup profile or photo for privacy reasons.
Can I bring a friend for moral support?
You'd be surprised how many people arrive alone. We actually prefer that guests do not bring friends to just be "spectators". If you plan to bring a friend, please make sure they secure a ticket for themselves and are coming to participate as well.
Interesting fact: people that arrive alone get more matches than those that bring friends. We DO encourage you to bring a friend that participates in the event. We have special discounts for friends and groups - purchase two tickets and get the second one at half off. Tickets must be purchased at the same time to qualify for this offer. After buying the tickets, just email us at info@speedfriendingevents.com and you will get your half off. If you'd like to purchase more than one ticket, email us for group discount offers.
What if I want to give someone my contact info at the event?
Go for it! That's the whole point. Do whatever you are comfortable doing. Also we will give you time at the end during the after party mixer to exchange contact info.
Event space is first come, first served. Please sign up even if you see a waiting list. We promise to move you into reserved spots as soon as they become available.
Rules Regarding Refunds and No-Shows
**Pre-paying is highly encouraged. We strongly discourage no-shows. It helps the host and the venue create the best experience possible. Although your ticket purchase is non-refundable, if you have purchased a ticket and are unable to make it to the event, please email your host at least 24 hours prior to the event and we will issue you a credit to attend a future event. We do this to encourage high participation at our events.
We are one of the only speed dating companies that routinely screens its clients for niceness and politeness. If we meet a dater we don't think you'll fancy meeting, we'll say 'No thank you' so you don't have to.
Your questions:
You get to ask whatever questions you want. You don't even have to stick to the questions you wrote down on your notecard. We only ask that you refrain from asking boring or typical questions. Use your imagination fun, thought-provoking or questions that you think really will help you find that right someone for you! Please respect typical social boundaries when asking questions.
Questions you are encouraged to ask is any question that's important to you such as: What adjective would a close friend use to describe you? What accomplishment are you most proud about? What is your most treasured possession and why? How do you spend your spare time?
Is sexual compatibility important to you?
Example questions to avoid: What do you do for work? How long have you lived here? What brought you to this event? No boring questions!! (And just so you know, it's rude to ask someone how old they are or how much money they make.)
The point of these questions is to create a fun icebreaker, no dull, one-sentence answer questions allowed. When you get seated with your partner, it is polite to introduce yourself by letting your partner know your name and finding out theirs.
** Sometimes you may not get a chance to meet everyone at the event (although we try our very best to make sure that you do!), but if there is someone you definitely want to meet, sit near them at the start of the event or tell your host and we'll make it happen. We are here for you to make new friends and singles connections and we want to make sure everyone has a good time! **
How Do I Dress?
How would you dress if you were going on a first date? Be you. Be Stylish. Usually, events will take place in area inside a bar or lounge. In our Version of Speed Dating, people are free to mingle at the bar and and get drinks, exchange numbers, and continue having a great time!
Please Note:
*RSVPing through meetup does not guarantee admission. You must pre-pay to secure your spot in the event. Try not to cancel last minute We all have to work together to make these events run like a well oiled machine. Cancelling creates a gap in the rounds and leaves people sitting by themselves.
