The PFS of SAV presents: "PSYCHOTRONIC MAKE-UP CLASS 2015"
The Psychotronic Film Society of Savannah (repeatedly named Best Local Film Series by the readers of Connect Savannah) is hosting a One-Day-Only QUADRUPLE-FEATURE of WAY-COOL and EXTREMELY OBSCURE motion pictures from around the globe, at Savannah's "Best Indie Film Venue," MUSE ARTS WAREHOUSE.

You see, over the past year or so, the PFS has been forced to cancel a handful of films in our weekly, Wednesday night series at the Sentient Bean Coffeehouse at the last-minute, due to technical problems.

Now, we've gathered together four of those canceled films, and will screen them all in a single day in the dark and quiet theatrical environment of the Muse!

THIS LIKELY YOUR ONLY CHANCE TO SEE THESE CRIMINALLY UNKNOWN EXAMPLES OF NOTABLE (AND IN SOME CASES, FLAT-OUT BIZARRE) CINEMA ON THE BIG SCREEN.

The four films have NOTHING in common with each other, save for the fact that the PFS of SAV is proud to showcase them - which will make for a TRULY WILD RIDE for those who dare to experience more than one selection!

Each film will screen only once, and seating is limited.

*** While tickets to individual films will be just $7 each at the door (which includes your choice of Organic Popcorn or Assorted Candies/Snacks), we HIGHLY RECOMMEND you purchase a Special All-Day Discount Pass in advance online.

You'll save $8 off regular admission prices, and the passes are transferable - meaning that if you can only make a couple of the films, you can let a friend use your pass to enjoy the movies you cannot!

We'll also be selling Raffle Tickets all day long for just $1 each, and drawing before every film for an assortment of unique and valuable prizes. So make sure to bring a few extra bucks for your chance at winning.

There will be time in between each film to grab a quick bite at one of the many fine restaurants just a few blocks from Muse, so why not make a day of it?

Here's the complete schedule:

----

PSYCHOTRONIC MAKE-UP CLASS 2015
SATURDAY, MAY 23

2:30PM - "VASILISA THE BEAUTIFUL" (1940, Soviet Union)

This "lost" B&W foreign classic was the very first live-action fantasy film ever made in the Soviet Union. Based on the old Russian fairytale of "The Frog Tsar" aka "The Frog Prince," it was financed by Joseph Stalin, and meant to dazzle audiences worldwide with the technological advances of the Soviet film industry. Unfortunately, the world did not pay much attention, and the film was hidden from view for decades before being recently restored. In many ways, this lovely, old-fashioned feature is the Soviet equivalent of the Walt Disney fairytale films of the same era. It is enjoyable by adults, but also suitable for children ages 13 and older, so feel free to bring kids to THIS one!
80 Minutes. IN SPOKEN RUSSIAN, WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES.

*********

5:00PM - "THE YOUNG ONE" (1960, USA/Mexico)

This is one of the finest films ever made on such difficult subjects as black segregation in the U.S., and the sexual abuse of minors. Shot in Mexico (which doubles for the American Southwest) and directed and co-written by the late, great and HIGHLY influential Spanish filmmaker LUIS BUNUEL (BELL DU JOUR, WUTHERING HEIGHTS), THE YOUNG ONE is a forgotten, provocative masterpiece filled with stellar performances, lovely B&W cinematography and a challenging, multi-layered screenplay. Made almost three years before TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD, it covers much of the same ground as that beloved American drama about Jim Crow laws and sexual stigmas of the 1950s. In fact, MOCKINGBIRD fans may be amazed to learn such a phenomenal film has been essentially hidden from them. Unavailable in the USA for decades, it's the morality tale of a black American jazz musician wrongfully accused of the rape of a white woman who flees by boat to a barrier island to escape lynching. There he meets an innocent, uneducated teenage girl and her unofficial caretaker - an abusive, middle-aged man. This INCREDIBLE motion picture deserves to be known by FAR more people. We'll proudly screen the best-looking, uncut print of this gem known to exist.
100 Minutes, in Spoken English. FOR MATURE VIEWERS.

*********

7:30PM - "CURSE OF THE DOLL PEOPLE" aka "THE DEVIL DOLL MEN" (1961, Mexico)

Delightfully hokey yet legitimately creepy, this low-budget, B&W horror film about a deadly curse placed upon the families of the men who stole a sacred idol from a holy pagan burial site is a guilty pleasure for fans of camp and kitsch. originally shot in Spanish and only released in Mexico, this film was purchased in 1968 by infamous drive-in distributor K. Gordon Murray, who had it dubbed cheaply (and poorly) into English. This poor dubbing job only accentuates the surreal nature of the flick, in which tiny, "living dolls" with human-like faces stalk and kill their victims with eerie precision. Filled with unintentionally funny dialog and heavy-handed direction, it's a Must-See for fans of movies that are "So Bad They're Good." Come prepared to laugh!
90 Minutes, Dubbed in English.

*********

10:00PM - "SCORPION THUNDERBOLT" (1988, Hong Kong)

Considered by some to be the most enjoyable and "epic" of maligned Chinese "trash cinema" director GODFREY HO's (NINJA TERMINATOR, CATMAN IN LETHAL TRACK) so-called "cut-and-paste" efforts -in which he brazenly appropriates footage from one or more existing, unrelated films into his own unique footage to create an entirely new (and sometimes bewilderingly, riotously confusing) motion picture- SCORPION THUNDERBOLT stars washed-up '60s leading man RICHARD HARRISON, and features tawdry kung-fu combat, softcore sex, blood 'n' gore, as well as a goofy-looking rubber snake-beast! Breathtakingly absurd and extremely fun (in a who-the-hell-knows-what-will-happen-next kind of way), it's a favorite of Psychotronic movie buffs worldwide, and rarely seen in public. Don't you dare miss it!
90 Minutes, Dubbed in English. FOR MATURE VIEWERS.
