'Origins of Dance' is a dance drama, based on Indian mythology, which uses Indian classical dance (Bharatanatyam) to describe the story of how drama, dance and music were first brought to the world, to prevent the people from fighting. In our modern world, we see how music, theatre, movies and dance still address humans' need to express strong emotions. The story describes the original fight being over interpretation of Vedic religious texts. So Lord Brahma, the creator of the universe, wrote the fifth Veda (books of knowledge) called 'Natya Veda' as an interpretive approach to communication with the divine, via storytelling using the human body in movement, sound and spirit. Later, when people began to learn how to tell stories, Lord Shiva introduced them to dance. With its shapes, movement and energy, dance gives humans the ability to choreograph and use the energy, which they would otherwise use in fighting, towards more creative pursuits.
