Singer-Songwriter and Storytelling Bluesman Roy Book Binder has been rambling around the world for the past 45 years! He gave up his Greenwich Village "pad" in the early 70s and lived in his Tour Bus for the next 15 years criss-crossing the US and appearing at festivals throughout Canada and Europe.
Book Binder travelled with the legendary Rev. Gary Davis in the late 60's. "The Book" recorded his first solo acoustic blues album in the 70s, which was the first to receive five stars in Downbeat magazine! In the late 80s "The Book" was part of Bonnie Raitt's East Coast Tour, which included an appearance on The Grand Ole Opry which led to almost 30 appearances on Nashville Now's Ralph Emory Show. In the 90s he often appeared with Jorma Kaukonen (who recorded two of Roy's songs).
Last August 19, The Good BookRoy's latest release of all original songsreached #3 on AirPlayDirect's Americana charts! (#1 was Guy Clark & #2 was the late Townes Van Zandt.) Folkdj.org had Roy in the top three.
Lowell Levinger (Banana from The Youngbloods) will begin our spring/summer house concert series at Cherry Hill Bed and Breakfast Inn, on Sunday, June 14, in our outdoor amphitheater.
Lowell sings Americana songfrom Youngbloods favorites to country blues to old R&B classicsthat swing while they tell stories, and he will be playing his fabulous "Modele Banana" 5 String Tenor Guitar made in Genova, Italy by Corrado Giacomel, tuned in fifths for a unique style and sound. Lowell will be playing songs from his freshly minted album, Down to the Roots, where he is accompanied by old friends Ry Cooder, David Grisman, Barry Melton, and many other stellar performers.
This will be a pot luck in our outdoor amphitheater,
so please bring whatever you might like to eat, cushions or chairs,
and BYOB, (or not).
Food, drink, and schmooze at 4 pm...Music at 5 pm.
