JCTC is engaging audiences with an innovative exploration of controversial topics through a new series that combines theater, performance and visual arts.
JCTC Conversations is an interactive styled evening where actors read literary works aloud and exchange thoughts and ideas with the audience.
The evening begins with Justice - an exhibit at JCTC's art gallery curated by Gabriel Pacheco of the Distillery Gallery in Jersey City Artist showcased include Pauline Chernichaw, Grigory Guervich, Jerry Khan, Alice Harrison, Grace Marquinhos, Gabriel Pacheco, Barbara Petersen, Philip Robinson, Lucy Rovetto, Jay Rubinstein, Ashley-Simone McKenzie, and Voodo Fè. "This exhibit aims to move the discussion of Justice from broad abstract concepts to an understanding of justice or the reverse, injustice, as something people experience daily," said Pacheco.
JCTC Conversations, features: The Chain, by Tobias Wolff and excerpts from The Short & Tragic Life of Robert Peace, by Jeff Hobbs. Used with Permission by the authors, these two works examine in drastically different ways, the heartbreaking intersection of race and justice in contemporary America. "The Chain" is a short story that conveys the pernicious web casual racism creates, while "The Short & Tragic Life of Robert Peace," a nonfiction work published last year, tells the story of a gifted young man from the mean streets of Newark, who received a full scholarship to Yale University, yet could not escape the cycle of poverty, broken families and unrelenting violence still plaguing parts of most cities.
