"Get In The Zone" - A groovy, fun evening of great music, old-school light shows, and dancers to benefit the Bridge Street Project, a collaboration of KVMR and the Nevada Theatre.

Jimmi Accardi and the Action Zone is everything you could possibly wish for in a band: Great songs, great attitude and great musicians.

The musical bedrock of the band are the original songs of Jimmi Accardi -- a rich, melodic and downright amazing song book, that takes over from where the great bands of the 60s left off.  Jimmi is a founding member of the Laughing Dogs and has toured extensively with the likes of Chubby Checker, Patti Smith, Blondie, Cheap Trick, The Monkees, and more.  Joining Jimmi in this new band are Jonathan Lyerly (Guitar, Guitar synth & Vocals), Charlie Nickrenz (Drums & Vocals) Steve Sheppard (Bass & Vocals).

Whether you are looking to dance, party or simply get lost in the sound of four guys playing magic and meaningful songs then look no further than the Action Zone - they've got it all. For more about the band check out http://www.theactionzone.com where you will find photos, bios, and music samples.

Sgt. Funky was formed in 2008 and  specializes in "songs you forgot you loved, specifically old-school psychedelic from the 60s and early 70s. Their covers include everything from the Animals to the Zombies, but they're not afraid to add the occasional R&B song or an obscure pop hit.

Sgt. Funky includes Jonathan "Elvis Funky" Lyerly on drums and vocals, Michael "Doc Funky" Bremer on guitar and electric "acid" banjo, Steve "Crusty Funky" Dudley on bass and vocals, Michael "Uncle Funky" Young on lead guitar and vocals and, for this event, Ben "Professor Funky" Gillespie on keyboards and vocals. In addition to playing guitar for the Action Zone, Lyerly also plays locally in Steady Hand, Ragged But Right and in a number of  old-timey acoustic bands. Bremer also plays banjo in the Buffalo Girls while Dudley plays bass in the band Joyride. Young is a broadcaster and former board president  of KVMR 89.5 Community Radio. Gillespie recently performed in Paul Emery's Leonard Cohen concert.

The Funkies, with a master list of over 100 songs, have performed locally at the Center for the Arts, the Miners Foundry, the Haven and the Stonehouse. They also have played at a number of private parties and benfits.

In addition to the music there will be a psychedelic light show by Stephanie Moellman.

The concert is a benefit for the Bridge Street Project, the new building in downtown Nevada City that houses KVMR 89.5 Community Radio and the new backstage space for the Nevada Theatre. The project, a collaboration between the radio station and the theater, recently opened its doors and has presented a number of events utilizing the new space, including a radio-theater production, an intimate concert in the station's community room and a "media lounge" for the Wild and Scenic Film Festival.

In addition to two new day-to-day broadcast studios, new equipment, a generator to keep the station on air during weather emergencies and office space, the building includes a community room that is open for use to non-profits and other community groups.

The Action Zone/Sgt. Funky event will include an audio and video signal that will be streamed live around the world at KVMR.org. It will be in addition to the station's regular broadcast stream of  on-the-air content.

The dual streams will be a first for the station which has embarked on a number of new features enabled by the new building and equipment. Volunteer Dick Mentzer has assembled a team of camera operators and technicians to explore all the streaming possibilities.
