Arc Iris at the Annex
About Arc Iris:

Arc Iris crystallizes the evolution of composer, singer, and multi-instrumentalist Jocie Adams, a former core member of renowned indie-folk band The Low Anthem. This is a breakaway moment for Adams, who now takes center stage as composer, lyricist, and lead vocalist.  Embracing her new role as auteur, Adams has created a genre-bending style that often shifts between cabaret-infused jazz, orchestral sophistication, grimy outlaw country, delicate and whimsical harmonies, and big-band exhilaration  sometimes all in the same song. Hers is an all-together different world where fantastical whimsy goes hand in hand with down-to-earth grit, and where rigorous classical training inflects but never softens the visceral rawness of hard-won experience.

"Arc Iris is the sound of an artist reborn. The band's self-titled debut, due in April, brims with whimsy and flights of fancy, informed as much by Joni Mitchell as it is by '70s prog-rock, Björk's sonic experiments, and sweeping film soundtracks. It's hypnotic."

The critics were impressed, with David Vescey from the New York Times noting, "I fully expect to hear more from this band as the years go on." and the U.K.'s Maverick Magazine calling it "A blistering energetic debut." During the winter of 201314 the band wrote and performed an original score in the acclaimed production of The Heart of Robin Hood at Harvard's American Repertory Theater, and they will continue the production for a four-month Broadway tryout in Canada in winter 201415.

"No patina, just authenticity."

About Jake Klar:

Although his music is based upon American roots traditions, it cannot be considered merely Folk or Americana. What you will discover is a melting pot of styles that surface into a purely modern reincarnation of Folk music. For Jake Klar, this rebirth is a spiritual conjuring from the old American soul to the new American heart, speckled with the grit and energy of the Blues and poetic songwriting of Dylan and Springsteen. It's part of the new Americana synergy that infuses Rock and Pop sensibilities with Folk traditions.

Klar's latest offering, Crescent St. Blues, is a collection of songs inspired by a 4-year journey through the contemporary American landscape. It explores the inner workings of everyday characters trying to find their way in an ever-changing world. It speaks of humanity and hardships, love and happiness, and searching for the good within the bad. It's a record about picking yourself up, dusting yourself off, and getting right back in the fight.
