Nadia Kean, aka Smarty Pants lives and plays roller derby in Austin, Texas for the Texecutioners and the Texas Rollergirls. She has been the co-captain of Team USA since the team's origin in 2011 and is currently preparing for the 2014 World Cup.
Smarty started skating bank track roller derby in 2003 for the TXRD Lonestar Rollergirls in Austin, Texas. In 2011 she made the switch to flat track when she joined TXRG.
Smarty has a few WFTDA Championship medals in her collection, the most recent is from 2013, when her team took second against Gotham.
She has held many titles and won many awards over the years, most recently she was elected as the Derby Skater of the Year and No. 2 Double Threat in 2013. She was elected the No. 2 Rookie of the Year in 2011 and the Breakout Skater of the Year in 2012 all awarded by Derby News Network.

Nadia has gained the respect of the international derby community through years of coaching for independent leagues and at training camps. Nadia enjoys working with a wide range of ability and skill. Her thought-provoking approach to coaching has helped thousands of skaters become the athletes they set out to be. Smarty incorporates concepts from various educational and athletic fields, focusing on the connections that are made between the brain and the body to enhance mobility, strength, strategy and skill. She feels equally comfortable coaching skaters who are in their first year as she does working with skaters preparing for WFTDA Championships. She can give you the short version of any skill or strategy, or she can break one concept down into a 12-hour session. She believes that there is potential in every skater, and she helps individuals, coaches, teams and leagues establish the timeline that is best suited for them to reach their key goals. When attending a session with Smarty you are guaranteed to walkaway with an entirely new learning experience and approach to whichever concept you are focusing on.
