The New News: An Evening of Poetry and Discussion with Jeffrey Brown
Join Copper Canyon Press and Seattle University for a very special evening with Jeffrey Brown, the chief correspondent for arts, culture, and society at PBS NewsHour. Brown's work has taken him all over the world as he searches for the connections between news and poetry, covering current events and the cultural landscape. His work as correspondent and producer has earned him an Emmy, five Cine Golden Eagle Awards, and other honors.
Jeffrey Brown's first collection of poetry, The News, published by Copper Canyon Press, will be hot off the presses at the time of the event. Attendees will get insights into the making of The News, and will be treated to one of Brown's first readings from the collection.
You will be invited to join the conversation! The evening will begin with a panel discussion on "the new news"--the tools we use, outside of conventional broadcast media, to share the messages we deem important--including perspectives from Dr. Sonora Jha and Dr. Susan Meyers on the relationship between news, journalism, and literature. After the panel and poetry reading, the audience will be invited to dialogue with Jeffrey Brown and each other about poetry, communication, and the ways in which we can creatively and responsibly share vital information with each other.
