Farm.Field.Sea.Martha's Vineyard: Farm and Shellfish Adventure with hands-on cooking class
Venture behind the scenes with local sea and land farmers of Martha's Vineyard, then head into the kitchen for a cooking class with top Island chefs, and enjoy a farm feast created from the day's bounty.
Our first stop will be Morning Glory Farm, a premier family-owned Island farm, where dirt under the fingernails and sweat on the brow mean self-sufficiency, sustainability, and unbeatably delicious homegrown food. Owners Jim and Simon Athearn will take us around the farm to learn about the heritage and history of Island farming, and how to select the best of what the soil has to offer throughout the growing season.
Into the kitchen we go for a cooking class with Morning Glory Farm's head chef Robert Lionette. We will learn how to create the farmstand's signature dishes and share with our new friends, a feast created from the day's bounty.
Post lunch, we will meet Nic Turner of Honeysuckle Oyster Farm on Katama Bay. Onshore, and learn from Rick Karney, our leading aquaculture expert from the Martha's Vineyard Shellfish Group, about the shellfish and fish native to the Island, of course, we will sample oysters and learn to shuck like Islanders do.
The adventure includes oyster farm education, an in-depth tour of a working family farm, a hands-on cooking class and lunch.
9:30am-3pm $250 pp.
