Farm.Field. Sea. Spring Bounty - Forage. Cook. Eat.
Join us to celebrate spring! This adventure is for people who are interested in the real deal of "eating seasonally." Learn about the wild edibles in the woods and on the shores of the Vineyard, the bounty of local gardens, and how the foraged spring foods bring a new dimension to your farm-fresh cooking.
We will begin at Mass Audubon's Felix Neck Wildlife Sanctuary. Our guide will be Suzan Bellincampi, director of FNWS and author of "Martha's Vineyard: A Field Guide to Island Nature." Our tour will give us an immersive introduction to wild foods from the woods and shores, with a focus on arming you with the skills to identify wild edibles on your own. Learn about the ethics of foragingavoiding harvesting rare or endangered species, and making sure to take only what you need, so that wild plants may continue to reproduce.
Our adventure continues as we head into the kitchen with private chef and cookbook author Cathy Walthers, for a class on how to use and prepare locally grown spring foods, foraged greens, and other goodies.
We will then gather together to get to know our new friends, over a lovely feast of the local bounty we have crafted into beautiful, vibrant dishes.
It is important to note that Felix Neck is a teaching lab therefore we will not forage or fish while the class is in session. But don't worry! We will sample many foraged 'goodies' along the way and you will be armed with enough knowledge to be able to find edibles on your next walk in the woods or by beach on your own!
The adventure includes foraging, storytelling, a hands-on cooking class, and breakfast and lunch. 9am-3pm $250pp
