Martinez Rants and Raves Gives Back
Martinez Rants and Raves is hosting "Martinez Rants and Raves Gives Back", an event to benefit two local organizations, serving Martinez and it's citizens.
The event will be held at Roxx on Main, Wed., May 20th at 6:30. The event will feature local music, light food, presentations to the beneficiaries and good times for all, right in our own downtown.
This event's beneficiaries are the Contra Costa Homeless Outreach (Formerly known as Martinez/Pacheco Homeless Outreach) and the Alhambra High School Visual and Performing Arts Department. Two very worthy causes.
Beneficiary Bios:
Since 2004, Doug Stewart has made it his mission to do what he can to help solve the homeless crisis. What started out as just helping some in Pacheco has turned into a mission for Doug and he commits himself to getting out into the community six days a week, including weekends, to make a difference in the lives of the homeless and temporarily stranded.
Before long, it started taking large amounts of money to meet the needs of the growing homeless population. What started out being completely funded by Doug and his wife Bailey, soon exhausted their resources and it was time to look for help from concerned and caring people in the community. In 2011, with the help of Joe Tully, an attorney with his office on Main Street in downtown Martinez, the Pacheco/Mtz Homeless Outreach, Inc. was incorporated in the State of California and became a bonafide IRS 501 (C)(3) charitable organization. In January of 2014, a "dba" name of Contra Costa Homeless Outreach to better reflect service to the entire Contra Costa County.
The Alhambra Visual & Performing Arts department is a creative collective that includes classes in fine art, digital art, digital photography, drama, chorus, orchestra, and band.
Gerry Wiener teaches Drama and Musical Theater while Julianne George conducts our band and orchestra. Allison Fairfield came to us two years ago transforming our photography classes into digital photography. Denise Fuller has taught Arts Survey as well as Art 1 for the past eight years and will be introducing a new Digital Media Arts Class next year. Kristen Holmberg is the department chair. She has taught at AHS for twelve years and teaches Art 1, 2, 3, and the AP art program.
The department puts on a Fall Play and a Spring Musical each year. These shows are always accompanied by a current Art Show displaying the work of all of talented students. In addition there are a number of music and choral performances each year as well as an annual AP Art show in May.
Local Musicians Jenny Starmack and Scotty O'Neill and their guests will provide music.
