Fire Pond Spring Concert, with special guests Amandla Chorus
The Amandla Chorus and Fire Pond will present two concerts celebrating the lives of two extraordinary women, while raising money for two life-changing organizations.
The Saturday evening, May 16 (7pm) and Sunday afternoon, May 17 (3pm) concerts will honor the memory of Juanita Nelson, the renowned activist who recently died at age 91; the performances also celebrate the work of Malala Yousafzai, the teenaged Pakistani Nobel Peace Prize recipient and education advocate.
Concert proceeds will help support the Greenfield Farmers' Market "Double the SNAP dollars" program, which aims to increase low-income citizens' access to fresh, local food. Juanita Nelson helped found the Farmers' Market in the 1970s.
Concert proceeds will also benefit the Literacy Project, which provides basic education programs and opportunities.
The Amandla Chorus, founded in 1988, sings songs of justice and celebration from around the world. Fire Pond is a multi-instrumental duo presenting music from many genres.
