Davis Parent University Presents: Jennifer Senior: All Joy and No Fun: The Paradox of Modern Parenthood
Join Davis Parent University & NYT bestselling author, Jennifer Senior, for a discussion on the complexities of modern parenthood. In her book, "All Joy & No Fun: The Paradox of Modern Parenthood", rather than examining the effects parents have on their children, Ms. Senior asks what are the effects of children on their parents?
"Raising children is terribly hard work, often thankless and mind-numbing, and yet the most rapturous experience available to adults. Senior begins with the supposition that parents are both happier and more miserable than nonparents, that child rearing dictates a wider emotional range than people have generally known before it. She tackles the problem of ambivalence, demonstrating that most parenting stresses its participants to their limits, no matter how much they love their children. Salted with insights and epigrams, the book is argued with bracing honesty and flashes of authentic wisdom." -NYT Book Review
"Traveling far beyond the infant and toddler years into the acute challenges of adolescence, Senior ingeniously deconstructs the kinds of experiences that all parents have but few parents talk about, revealing in countless ways that none of us are in this alone. I loved this book." -Madeline Levine, bestselling author of Teach Your Children Well
Avid Reader will have books available for purchase before the event, in store, as well as at Brunelle Theater on 4/29. Ms. Senior will do a book signing at the end of the evening.
