BRAVE MISS WORLD - Harrisburg Jewish Film Festival opening event
A woman's journey from rape victim to seeker of justice, to global activist in the fight against sexual violence, is chronicled in this powerful, highly acclaimed documentary. At age 18, Israeli model Linor Abargil was abducted, stabbed and raped just weeks before she competed in - and won - the Miss World pageant in 1998. BRAVE MISS WORLD highlights not only Linor's successful battle for justice against her attacker, but also her healing process, which included speaking out about her own experience and encouraging other rape victims to do the same - without shame.
The event begins at 6:30 with a reception. The screening begins at 7:00, and will be followed by a panel discussion featuring Kristen Houser, the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape's VP of Public Relations; Rhonda Hendrickson, the YWCA Greater Harrisburg's Director of Violence Intervention and Prevention Services; and Kate Cook, a survivor of both rape and domestic violence, who has dedicated her life to raising awareness and education about sexual violence and rape culture on a local, state, and national level.
