THE GREAT CLARINET CIRCUS by Edward CANSINO, with the LOS ANGELES CLARINET CHOIR
The LOS ANGELES CLARINET CHOIR's 10th anniversary concert features "THE GREAT CLARINET CIRCUS," a light-hearted work written for the LACC in 2006 by the late Pasadena composer, Edward Cansino. Drawing on memories of the circus clowns he loved as a boy, Cansino 's visionary musical work begins with an actual Parade of musicians, evokes musical images of clowns, elephants, lions, acrobats, and multiple circus acts, and concludes with a noisy hommage to Charles Ives's "Circus Band March." Along the way, special guest world class jugglers JACK AND JERI KALVAN perform to the sound of 40s swing in "Sing, Sing, Sing" by Louis Prima! Percussion soloist is Timm Boatman. Multiple clarinet soloists include Victoria Ramos, Ryan Espinosa, Christin Hablewitz, and Lisa Kohorn, basset horn, as the Sad Clown!
Other works on the program include "Etude" by Japanese composer, Akira Toda, an arrangement of George Gershwin's "Five Songs from Porgy and Bess" by R. Van Der Wal, and a new clarinet quartet in South Indian style in "Raag Khammaj" composed by Christin Hablewitz!
Children under 12 free! General Admission, $20; Seniors $15; Students $10. Special Family Admission group discount (up to 8 people) is only $40.
