My Name is Rachel Corrie
Rachel Corrie was an american peace activist who traveled to Gaza with the International Solidarity Movement in 2003 at the height of the second intifada. During her years at The Evergreen State College in her hometown of Olympia, WA, Rachel became immersed in the Palestinian struggle for self-determination. While in Gaza she stayed in Rafah, where she worked to defend the limited water resources available to Palestinians and to protect civilian homes from being demolished by Israeli settlers. On March 16th, 2003, less than two months after arriving in Gaza, Rachel was crushed to death by an Israeli Defense Forces bulldozer while defending a host family's home from being unlawfully demolished. She was working to establish a sister city relationship between Rafah and Olympia, which successfully came to fruition following her death.

There will be a post show discussion immediately following the performance. All donations will go directly to The Freedom Theatre in the Jenin Refugee Camp in the West Bank, a haven for young people who can transform their frustrations with the occupation into creative energy they can use to bring theatrical productions to life.

All the words of the play are Rachel's. Actor Alan Rickman and journalist Katherine Viner arranged and edited journal entries and emails into this one woman production. The play was first produced at the Royal Court Theater in London and staged by Alan Rickman in April 2005. The show made it's New York debut in fall 2006 at the Minetta Lane Theatre in Greenwich Village. Since then, My Name is Rachel Corrie continues to be produced in regional theaters nation wide.

Ashley Malloy holds a BFA in Acting from CCSU, where she graduated this spring. Since first performing My Name is Rachel Corrie at CCSU last fall, Ashley has since toured the show to the National End the Occupation Conference in Washington D.C., and to the Rachel Corrie Foundation this past March to perform the show on the anniversary of Rachel's death in her hometown of Olympia, WA. as well performing in Michigan and New Hampshire this past month. Ashley is grateful to Rachel's parents, Craig and Cindy Corrie, who have been endlessly supportive of her work. This series of performances is part of a larger national tour that will be continuing into next year in over 20 states at colleges and universities from coast to coast.
