During this one hour guided tour, learn about the past, present, and future of the Richardson Olmsted Complex! An experienced docent will introduce visitors to the genius of Henry Hobson Richardson, Frederick Law Olmsted, and Dr. Thomas Kirkbride as they developed the 140-year-old former state hospital facility.
Experience the interior spaces of the purpose-built structures and healing landscape that created a therapeutic environment then considered the most progressive treatment available for mental illness. The tour will guide visitors through spaces in the Towers Building, an adjacent wing undergoing construction, and a wing still in disrepair.
See firsthand the transformation as the Complex is adaptively reused as a hospitality venue and cultural amenity for the city, beginning with Hotel Henry in 1/3 of the buildings. Alongside and intertwined with the hotel and conference center will be the Buffalo Architecture Center.
