P.E.Z. in NYC Fundraiser for The Academy of Young Writers
The Celebration of Whimsey
New York, NY
Share this event:

The P.E.Z. Zhow is a comedic personal essay show where once a month 5 reader/performers who are writers, actors, artists and "civilians" write and read-perform an essay on a given one word topic. The essays can be touching and moving - and often are - but the overall feeling of every show is comedic.

The P.E.Z. Zhow has been running in Los Angeles since March of 2011 and has built up a regular audience and a fairly good reputation for quality.

New York City is known for some of the best storytelling shows ever produced, but there aren't a lot of essay shows that are written and read and have a thesis and a conclusion and still manage to make the folks laugh. We wanted to bring the two worlds together and find a way to benefit young writers along the way.

The Academy of Young Writers was brought to my attention by one of the LA cast making the trek. I am THRILLED they are partnering with us.

The hope is to do this yearly and MAYBE even criss cross applesauce and bring a NYC show to LA.

Come check us out. We're fun!!

Performers:

Headliner: John Fuglesang. I mean... COME ON!! RIGHT?!?!

Alex Alexander's work can be seen on reruns of such acclaimed shows as Grey's Anatomy, ER, Without a Trace, Nip Tuck, House, Shameless, The Middle, 2 Broke Girls. Justified and How to Get Away with Murder. Actually, not shows LIKE those shows but those actual shows and other shows just as impressive that she has chosen to omit for the sake of brevity. She has been producing the popular personal essay show, The PEZ Show since March, 2011 and is a writer/producer/performer in the Feet First Films project, "The Lipstick Jones Half Hour Hour of Power." Alex is never not involved in some sort of self produced project and fully understands the comedic value of double negatives.

Jonathan Braedley Welch is the son of Cybill Shepherd and Bruce Willis. JK. Actually, he's a producer, performer, and real man. An alumnus of Hofstra University in New York, he worked as an editor and producer in NYC before heading west to Los Angeles to follow his life-long passion of stage and screen and make all his dreams come true (which they definitely have, don't worry). He created the storytelling show A Very Special Episode in both New York and LA, and has been featured on such live shows as Risk, Radio Picture Show, To Whom It May Concern, and Bawdy Storytelling. Say hello to him on twitter or instagram: @braedley or visit his website jonathanbraedleywelch.com.

Will Link is the co-host of the pop culture podcast Will Sean Podcast? for the Westcast Network. He's also an Afterbuzz TV host for the show Orphan Black. Tess Rafferty is a writer, comedian, and actress. Shehas written for @midnight, MTV, the Comedy Central ROAST OF ROSANNE BARR and the Soup, where for more than 7 seasons, she skewered pop culture and parodied celebrities. She was frequently seen on camera as herself, Posh Spice, a Succubus, a "Guidette" from Jersey Shore, and perhaps most notably The Dancing Maxi Pad. Tess made her debut as an author with RECIPE FOR DISASTER published by St. Martin's Press in 2012.A culinary memoir, LA Confidential Magazine described the book as "a compilation of hilarious vignettes about dinner parties gone awry, mixed with tried-and-true recipes that she presents in a fun, approachable way." Tess started performing stand-up comedy at the clubs and Chinese restaurants around Boston while attending Emerson College, and, when not holding herself to ridiculous standards at dinner parties or learning to speak Italian, continues to perform stand up in Los Angeles. She is a regular performer at the storytelling show, Public School, and frequently reads her essays at the Pez show. She can also be seen discussing pop culture on the TV Guide Channel and VH1.
She lives in Los Angeles with her husband and their 3 ungrateful cats.
