Out of the Rubble: A benefit for the children of Gaza
The Middle East Children's Alliance (MECA) is a nonprofit organization based in Berkeley, California working for the rights of children in the Middle East by sending humanitarian aid, supporting projects for children and educating North American and international communities about the effects of the US foreign policy on children in the region. MECA supports children and families in Gaza through financial support and professional assistance to community organizations that help meet Palestinian children's needs, including clinics, kindergartens, counseling centers, libraries; accessible parks and playgrounds; sports teams, and dance, music and art programs. MECA also helps provide university scholarships for Palestinian youth, and provides clean water to children in Gaza by installing water purification and desalination units in schools and kindergartens.
The program will include amazing local speakers and performers including Camile Odeh, Ahmed Hamad, Ethan Viets Van-Lear (spoken word), Sarab Shada (singing), and Alex Farha (oud).
Tickets are $30 for general admission, and $15 for students and low-income individuals. Dinner will be provided by Haifa Cafe.
This goal of this event is to specifically raise desperately needed funds for children in Gaza, both for humanitarian aid and for psychosocial programs.
