Nature Book Club with Barbara Earl Thomas Thursday, April 9 at 7pm Free, but RSVP Age: 15 and up
We are pleased to introduce a new book club at the Center. Each month a local luminary will lead the discussion of their favorite nature book. In April we welcome Barbara Earl Thomas, Barbara is a Seattle based artist, award-winning writer, and arts administrator. Her paintings and prints have been exhibited at the Seattle Art Museum, The Tacoma Art Museum, and others throughout the United States. Thomas' writing has earned recognition including two Seattle Arts Commission awards for new non-fiction, and has been included in numerous publications including The Gift of Birds: Encounters with Avian Spirits and Arcade Magazine. In 2013, she received the Seattle Mayor's Arts Award for a Cultural Ambassador. Barbara has selected Eating Stone: Imagination and the Loss of Wildness by Ellen Meloy. "While it is a book about the Southwest I think the way she talks about how the imagination is fed by nature can apply to any landscape" - Barbara Earl Thomas. Eating Stone is available for purchase in our Nature Store.
