An Acoustic Evening with Dayna Kurtz
Well-known singer/songwriter Dayna Kurtz will appear for the first time in Danville this summer to put on a fundraiser concert for the Danville Arts Council.
The concert will follow the first wine festival sponsored by the Danville Business Alliance. The concert will be held in the Danville Middle School.
Local talent will open the show at 7:00 p.m. then Kurtz will take the stage at 8:00 p.m.
Her unique sound has been described as a blend of jazz, folk and pop with recordings of blues tracks.
The National Academy of Songwriters named her Female Songwriter of the Year.
Norah Jones and Bonnie Raitt have praised her. Kurtz recorded a duet with Jones on her 2004 album.
Kurtz has performed on radio shows including World Café, Mountain Stage and NPR's Morning Edition and Tell Me More.
Kurtz has toured with Elvis Costello, Richard Thompson, Mavis Staples, B.B. King, Dr. John, Richie Havens, Rufus Wainwright, Keren Ann, the Blind Boys of Alabama and Chris Whitley.
Kurtz, who also can be seen on YouTube, personally researched lost and obscure blues and R&B songs from the 1940s through the 1960s for her Secret Cannon albums.
