Bhakti Sugandham: The Fragrance of Devotion
Srimad Bhagavatam, the Bhakti grantha; the source of that fragrance of devotion!
This crown jewel of all Puranas bestows the highest bhakti easily on those who simply listen to it oozing, as it is, with the sweet nectar of the stories of the Lord and His devotees ready to be drunk through the ears. When one listens to Srimad Bhagavatam, the Lord Himself enters through the ears, enters the heart, cleans it and seats Himself there. For Srimad Bhagavatam is the very incarnation of Lord Sri Krishna!
'Bhakti Sugandham' is a classical, indian dance ballet based on Srimad Bhagavatam and extolls Its Glory. This classical dance ballet weaves an English narrative with the enthralling musical compositions of one of India's Spiritual Masters, His Holiness Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji to enunciate the greatness of Srimad Bhagavatam. The production transports the audience to Dwapara Yuga when Bhagavatam took birth and glorifies the Nava Rasas articulated within this Purana with 'live' music, dance, drama, story-telling and other theatrical elements.
Priya Murali, founder of Flute 'n Feather Dance Company, Excelsior, MN is the artistic director and rehearsals coordinator for 'Bhakti Sugandham' at Minneapolis, MN. Priya is the disciple of legendary Guru and visionary, Adyar. K. Lakshman and has performed at Arts Alliances and prestigious dance festivals in and around India, New Jersey and Seattle. Priya has served as an instructor and member of the artistic team at From Within Academy, WA and continues to pursue Bharatanatyam under Sri K. Mohanan, dancer, teacher and professor at the world-renowned Kalakshetra Foundation.
Surabi Veeraraghavan, based out of Houston, TX is the primary choreographer of Bhakti Sugandham. Surabi is the protégé of legendary danseuse, Chitra Viswesvaran, acclaimed as one of India's greatest classical dance exponents and continues to pursue dance with Padmini Chari, who is a dancer, choreographer and Guru par excellence.
This production brings together several dancers from reputed dance institutions in the Twin Cities and also from other parts of the United States.
'Bhakti Sugandham' is sure to delight the audience with its spiritual, musical as well as visual grace and beauty.
